Tokyo has 40 million if you count the metro area. TBH statistics for the populations of cities can be kind of unreliable because different countries set the legal boundaries of cities differently. For example, if you counted the populations of American cities the same way they do in China, NYC would have 20 million people.

I think Lagos and NYC are about the same size coincidentally, because their official populations are each about 8 million but the metro populations are each about 20 million.

Their entire culture is shaped by one of the most regular, calamitous disaster zones on earth. It survives earthquakes almost untouched that level cities in Turkey or South America.

I find it interesting people will just live in natural disaster prone places. Meanwhile there are countries like Ireland that never have natural disasters.

You know they get hurricanes in Ireland sometimes? You ever wonder what happens when a category one hurricane meets a 700 foot high cliff? Absolutely nothing. Very safe country, you see that’s a logical place for humans to settle which is why almost nobody did and they have a tiny population.
