Moderation has been overhauled. cccuuunnttt and a few others are still full mods, the same as when you were last here, but we now have lots of anonymods too. Anonymods are normal users, except that they can delete things/lock topics. They're a bit like 4chan janitors, trusted users who can help look after the board. Also, the full mods don't use their hyperlinks so much these days.

A lot of the drama around Matt, the GHOUL saga, the Rwanda phase, seemed pretty late-stage in the classic era. Which I view as ending around the time that GHOUL fell and the rise of scatchan. That was also around the time Anontalk shutdown for good, if I recall. Anyway, I say all that because of this:

Really weird to think about because it seems a lot must've happened in just one and a half years. Feels like just as much as what's happened in the 12 years since in terms of chan drama.

Maybe some of that is because I'm including some of my memory of Tinychan, which maybe existed a year or so before(?) I don't know. My memory is hazy on this. But this thread is from 2011 and Anontalk was founded in 2008, so all this drama would've been within a 3 year window, at most.

This is one of the reasons why I like looking back at this stuff from time to time. Our, especially my, memories are so deceptive and it's always interesting for me to see how (in)accurately I remembered things.

The time issue is due to the year 2038 problem, as you can see on the events page. That's the date where everything goes wrong.

All the dates before that are reliable. Exception being when someone fucks up and the site is started from scratch again. Which is maybe what happened? That's the question. When was pre-bunker-minichan started?

You're right that there was more AT—MC overlap. Some newer bulletins are missing from IWAB and the 2010 shutdown date is wrong; AnonTalk did die in 2010, but Kimmo revived it. It lasted until early 2011.

That's exactly how I feel whenever I think back. So much of the drama was 2010-2011. Almost every time I'm reminded of some Minichan event, or happening, or drama, or whatever, it's from that period.

Obviously there was a lot more activity. I think it helped (drama-wise) that our prolific posters were a lot more prolific. I remember in 2010 racing Matt to hit 10,000 posts. Matt beat me (by a few thousand IIRC) but it's crazy to me to think the board hadn't even existed for a year and we already had users approaching 10k posts. This current UID of mine is from April 2018 and I'm only at 9,400.

Ah, that makes more sense with what I remember. Some of these time frames I vaguely remember because of other stuff that was going on in my life in which I know the exact year. Is that how you're remembering these dates too? Or do you just have a better memory? Or just looking it up from archives?

Look at the 'time left' column on the events page. The sorting is right, though, if that's what you fixed.

I've never looked at the minibbs code, but I do know mysql TIMESTAMP fields have the 2038 problem. DATE and DATETIME don't. However, the mysql documentation, when I've looked into it, it never seemed clear to me when it internally resorts to TIMESTAMPs for computation and when it doesn't. I think NOW() may return a timestamp. So if the 'time left' column is computed by subtracting NOW() then, maybe that's where the problem is coming back even if the database storage is fine. I've dealt with stuff like that before and just gave up because it wasn't important enough to fix. mysql's handling of dates is bullcrap.

Hahaha, nah, I look back on those time fondly. I've basically always had some niche interest or other while on here, I'm not too worried about being viewed as cringe.

The good thing about Minichan is that, usually, there's ssomeone else here who will make you look normal in comparison.

Mate, I've had this exact thought before! It's weird, so much of the significant stuff seemed to happen in the short, initial period. Memory's a little foggy, but stuff like sK, Ultimate Cake, Kimmo quitting, all seemed to happen around then. It feels like all of this "golden age" stuff happened over a longer period, but apparently it didn't.
