Yet China has a shortage of women and faces demographic problems.

I think the attitude they have towards woman is probably the reason why they have a shortage of women in the first place. Because of you know… government mandated abortions.

If you can only have one child and you live in a society where men are valued more than women, a lot of women would abort the child if they found out it was female and keep it if they found out it was male.

I find it interesting how non religious Chinese people are because of their government, but then for better or for worse a lot of their cultural practices and ideas seem like they’re probably influenced by religion. In this case it’s darker, but also in more light hearted ways, like their cultural holidays. It seems kinda like if everybody celebrated Christmas and said their ancestors go to heaven but everybody denounced Christianity at the same time and never went to church. Which to be honest is kinda the way the west seems to be going. Do people go to church? No. Do they still celebrate Christmas? Only every single year.
> This is in fact what happened. Some would let their girl child die so they could try again.
Or ship them abroad for adoption. I know several Chinese-American women who landed on this path instead of being drowned in the Yangtze so the family could raise Hung Lo instead.
