I keep seeing the news about the war restarting there but like does it even matter overall? I feel like I'm missing something but why does anyone care about Ethiopia?

I think probably what you’re asking is how does it matter for you. And I think behind that there’s probably an assumption you have that it doesn’t matter because it’s a poor backwards country and you live in a real developed western country that doesn’t have fake third world problems like war. But I think that’s a mistake because there is a way it matters for you. If you look at Ethiopia’s history, their history is actually fairly impressive. They had a centralized state and they modernized when Europeans invaded Africa and they held off colonizers and remained independent until World War Two. So I guess there is a lesson in that: empire doesn’t last forever and a society can descend into chaos.

It’s not fair, but between Japan and Ethiopia, even though the Japanese were the bad guys, Japan lost to the allies and Ethiopia lost to the axis, which makes a pretty big difference in how things ended up.

Oh, well if that’s what you’re asking, then yes it does matter geopolitically, because Ethiopia is a country and geopolitics is concerned with the affairs of countries.
