Oh yeah all the time. This is a great distinction. I use a lot of sites that aren’t well indexed. I go to specific sites to pull things or subscribe to their RSS feeds. I have my own basic HTML configuration for dashboards and alerts of new releases. Hard nerd shit. But maybe they’re going to find the smoking gun for who the Sea Peoples actually were.

The original page rank is actually a surprisingly simple algorithm, you just have a program that has a list of all the webpages on the internet and then it randomly follows links and every time it visits a page it increments its rank by one, then 20% of the time it jumps to a random page to avoid getting stuck in a loop.

It's very easy to find high quality sources if you are looking.
SciHub exists, and every major university puts up free resources for the public. News archives are easy to find too.

I love software, but that’s one of the things about AI I don’t really like. It feels like the way things are going it’s trying to discourage individual creativity and individual effort. In theory it’s not bad if more people can make stuff, but it would be nice if it they were actually making cool stuff instead of redundant Claude generated websites that are just ChatGPT wrappers for some calculator for some random thing that doesn’t have any deterministic algorithm when you could have just asked ChatGPT and gotten a better answer probably.

Apparently plate tectonics are really important for the existence of life on Earth because the geological activity associated with it, like volcanism for example helps to prevent heat from building up in the Earth’s core. Venus doesn’t have a moon, so it has a smaller core than Earth. Even though Venus has a smaller core than Earth, the heat from the radioactive decay of Uranium 235 in the core of Venus builds up to the point where the entire surface of Venus melts once every billion years, which leads to a runaway greenhouse effect with a carbon dioxide atmosphere 90 times as dense as Earth. But the Earth despite likely having more uranium decaying in its core then Venus never had that problem because the composition of the crust is just right that heat can be released.

Since the sun was fainter in the past (it increases in luminosity by 10% per billion years), it’s possible Venus could have had oceans like Earth at one point and possibly even life. Mars definitely had water. So early on in the solar system there could have been three habitable planets, it’s just that the Earth got incredibly lucky that as the sun got warmer over time, bacteria converted the carbon dioxide in our atmosphere into oxygen coincidentally balancing out the increasing brightness of the sun, which made it possible for life to exist for billions of years.
