The concept is strange. There is no God, but some religions are real and should be tolerated but others are fake and must be banned. That’s a wacky idea.

Marxism Leninism generally advocated for state atheism. A secular government is pluralistic, it allows for individuals to practice a number of faiths or no faith at all, but the government doesn’t make an assertion that God does or does not exist. State atheism is when the government denounces religion outright and requires people to be atheist to serve in government for ideological reasons.

Of course, China describes themselves as "Socialist with Chinese characteristics" which is a modification on Maoism which is a modification on Leninism, which is a modification on Marxism, so really China is kinda doing something that’s tangentially related to whatever the heck Marx was thinking and using the aesthetic of hammers and sickles because they think it looks cool, basically.
