I don’t recall a moment in time where talking was an option. Seems like people by default have always made a point to “pick a side and fight the other guy.”
Because to act pragmatically we’d have to recognize our implicit and explicit biases and curb them to the side and say “hey maybe we shouldn’t do this guys. This is not good our country, let alone community.”

I mean, if you look at Trump’s platform, I don’t see anything that appeals to people my age. He made everything more expensive and his only complaint about college is that it’s not selective enough, when admit rates have been consistently going down because a college degree is just considered mandatory now. I feel like you don’t even understand the concept of winning. Winning isn’t what happens when somebody else loses. People only resort to that when they lose faith that they can meaningfully achieve any gains in their social standing, so they start attacking others to make themselves feel higher in comparison, when really all they’re doing is reducing the net wellbeing of the collective.

No, my position was always that it should only be a competition of intelligence.
Other things shouldn't be a factor, barring obvious things like disability stopping someone from doing a job, or a racially prefered actor for realism (they can tell me race is why they turned me down for the MLK role, that's ethical).
