My best theory is they’re underreporting the amount of lead in the tap water and I’m fine because I always drank filtered water since childhood. Beyond that I have no theories as to why this level of stupid exists at such a grand scale.

I’m joking, but you can google when lead pipes were banned in the US, and then think about how old US cities are relative to that year, and ask yourself, have you ever seen the government tear up the ground and replace miles and miles of pipes under every street in America? If you put two and two together it’s like, yeah, there’s probably lead in the water.

It's not fun debating policy when they are the opponent. I was hoping the Christian base would denounce Trump for being too perverted and problematic but I guess tighter immigration and oil are more important for Christ.

The evangelical “Christians” in power already are tied into prosperity gospel heresies and misreading of the Bible. Even worse the leaders use whatever translation of the Bible fits the meaning they want to project (“proof texting”). They always skip “eye of the needle,” chidings about avoiding ostentatious public prayer and to avoid “chattering like pagans.”

Tbh that’s one of the things I like about Catholicism. I think the west has a problem of associating wealth with morality and judging poor people for being lazy or lacking character, but I think true Christianity should be about showing compassion for the less fortunate.

It’s especially problematic when people combine it with Nazi ideas about biological determinism and they call themselves Christian. The New Testament is about a Jewish man living under Roman occupation. It’s a religion by the oppressed for the oppressed at its core, if you read the beatitudes for example, to me it just seems disgusting that people try and twist Christianity into the opposite of what it’s supposed to stand for.

I guess there are political tensions regarding gender within the Catholic Church and that matters. But that said, not on a political level, but on a theological level, one of the differences between Catholicism and Protestantism is that Catholics believe in the immaculate conception, which is the idea that Mary was born without sin. Which is important since Catholics believe that everyone is born with sin except for Jesus and Mary.

It's more than just some tension for the women told they can never lead. Saying there was one woman free of sin doesn't explain that away.

The Bible is malleable and can be quoted to suit one’s purposes. Look at prosperity gospel, which is a heresy that preys on the poor and poorly educated. The prosperity flows up to Joel Osteen and other mega-church abominations.

For instance, I’m not comparing the Bible to Mein Kampf in any way, but I remember I was surfing the internet one day bored looking up stuff about World War Two, and I was curious about the honorary aryan thing, because I saw some quota forum where people were cherry picking quotes from Mein Kampf to make it seem like Hitler was in love with Japan and Japanese culture and Japanese people. I felt suspicious of it, so I went and looked up the actual text of Mein Kampf online and went searching for sections that mentioned Japan using the control + F search, and I found there are sections that make it sound like Hitler was incredibly racist against Japanese people and thought they were biologically inferior to white people. So if you cherry pick Mein Kampf you can make it sound like Hitler loved or hated the Japanese. So it’s like, that’s just an example, but in general, when people have a bias they want to set out to prove and you give them enough text to work with, it doesn’t really matter what book you’re talking about, they’ll figure it out one way or another.

In that case though, Hitler was a psychopath, so the idea he could praise a country and then also say he thinks their culture is inferior and they can’t be credited as the inventors of anything because they’re biologically inferior in terms of intelligence in the same book is to be expected. So maybe that’s a bad example, psychopaths are pathological lairs.
