Funny, I just re-watched Full Metal Jacket the other night; and while its a decent film, I think it's overrated.

Kubrick considered it to be his best film he ever made (albeit it was his last). It is extremely well done and its story comes from one of my favorite novellas, so I enjoyed it extremely. Although Tom Cruise is a shitbag, he's also a talented actor and the narrative flows really well. There are some scenes in it which really make you freeze and think deeply. It's a very chilling experience.
