I know western communists don't generally like organized religion anyway but seeing the CCP crack down on small religious communities within China is probably the biggest reason to reject communism entirely for most people. This one thing alone will have people embracing capitalism wholeheartedly even if they'd normally have issues with inequality and things of that nature. I don't think China particularly cares about advancing the communist cause around the globe but if they did, this is absolutely not the way to do it

Like I understand that Christianity has been used to justify some bad things. But it is a religion by the oppressed for the oppressed. Israel was under Roman occupation so the Jews wanted a savior, so it is an inherently anti imperialist religion even if later in history when it became dominant it was used to justify imperialism.

That’s the other thing, atheists will claim that God doesn’t exist or claim that Christianity did bad things. But honestly, even if I stopped believing in God, I think Jesus was a real person and I actually like what he said though.

It’s also ironic that they try and use Confucianism to justify their dictatorship, but I actually had to read Confucius for a literature class in high school. In the Analects by Confucius, Confucius said that if a country was ruled by good government for a hundred years, all violent nature would cease and there would be no reason to have the death penalty. It’s also annoying because then conservative idiots in the west will badmouth Chinese culture because of the association of Confucius and the CCP even though if you actually read Confucius, it sounds completely different.

People like to twist it into something that it’s not, and of course Confucius had some sexist beliefs because he was a product of his time. However the idea of a paternal government, is really the idea a government has a duty to look after its citizens, Confucius was against the death penalty (at least in theory he thought it was possible to have a society that wouldn’t need it which is actually a pretty radical idea for a guy who lived that long ago a lot of people today aren’t even at that point yet in their thinking even in democratic societies like the United States), so he had some concept that there is such a thing as good government and bad government. So I don’t think the portrayal some people make that Confucianism is Chinese culture and Confucianism is authoritarian therefore Chinese culture is authoritarian is true. It feels like a gross mischaracterization of Chinese culture, Confucius, and the CCP simultaneously.

Or even just the concept that crime is the governments fault for not doing enough for the people, its crazy a guy who lived 2,000 years ago had that thought and there are still loads of people today you could never get that idea through their thick skulls.
