I don’t really get why though. They act like he’s never going to be defeated and everybody in every country will have to submit to him, except he’s 80 and he’s been the president for 6 years. Whatever he didn’t do in the first 6 years he’s not going to figure out in the last 2, and even if he stays in office for the rest of his life, the rest of his life isn’t really that long.

People sometimes say that China doesn’t have any ambitions but I think that’s wrong. If you look at their plans for future aircraft carriers for example, given the number they want to build and the specifications of those carriers, it’s obvious their intention is to match the United States in terms of their military strength. Given all the shenanigans going on I do wonder about that sometimes, what the power balance will look like in 20 or 30 years.

It doesn’t logically follow that the truth of a religion is determined by whether people who claim to adhere to that religion are good or bad people. It makes sense to blame priests who did bad things, but somehow acting like that has any connection to whether or not we should follow Jesus or if the pope has primacy over Christianity are each completely unrelated.

It also especially doesn’t make sense if you understand the Catholic faith. Catholicism asserts that all humans except for Mary and Jesus were born with sin. Which means that Catholics believe that all humans have evil within us and all humans act against God to some degree. So the fact that there is evil within the church doesn’t invalidate the philosophy of the church itself, it’s actually compatible with Catholic beliefs about the morality of humans. That said, that doesn’t mean that Catholics think that sin is a good thing. But the fact that it exists isn’t contradictory to what the religion asserts is true.

There’s nothing in Catholicism that asserts that a bishop can’t sin or that a pope can’t sin. Papal infallibility only applies to statements about religion and morality that are made when the pope is speaking ex cathedra in which he is prevented from error by the Holy Spirit.

But anyway, God is perfect. God has knowledge, God is immortal, and God is free from sin. Jesus is God so Jesus was free from sin. However, God did not make us equal to himself. If we weren’t free to choose sin, we wouldn’t have free will. Humans have knowledge, but we aren’t equal to God.
