The US is using their support over Argentina as some kind of leverage and wouldn't mind seeing Argentina retake it so they can use the oil money to pay back their debts. Won't work though because Argentina has pretty much disarmed since the war innthe 80s

I get that the British did the whole empire thing. What I don’t understand is why they want the Falklands. If I made a list of places that are worth conquering, the Falklands wouldn’t be on it. Why does Argentina want the Falklands? Only like 3,000 people live there. It’s barely even worth having a war over, more people would die fighting over it than even live there in the first place.

Even the whole thing with Ireland is kind of strange to me. The UK has more than 60 million people. A couple hundred years ago, Ireland had 8 million people but the British caused so much starvation which killed a million people made a few million leave, today Ireland only has 5 million people. So the UK is 12 times larger than Ireland by population but somehow they think they need Northern Ireland for some reason. Not even all of Ireland just the northern bit. The Falklands is a thousand times smaller than Ireland, it’s like, I don’t know, I just feel like we should care about stuff that actually matters.

Honestly I find it annoying how people on the right in the west want to hold onto the idea of empire and celebrate tiny victories like they mean anything. It’s like, the extent to which modern western countries have empires so goddamn pathetic and insignificant. Like honestly, the UK at some point is probably going to have to give up Northern Ireland. I highly doubt it will still be part of the UK in the year 2100, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people in the UK probably know it. And I should stop yapping about this, but they say "special relationship" like anybody in the US ever says that. Nobody in the US ever says it on the left or the right, it’s just the UK that says it. It actually interesting though, most white Americans aren’t ethnically British but we all speak English. Which is also kinda silly when Nazi types start talking about America’s "Anglo Saxon heritage" or racists try and connect the success of the United States to some racial British thing, but if you look at the numbers, British Americans and African Americans actually make up about the same percentage of the population.
