I hear people say sometimes that Japan has a really unique culture and right wing people and also Japanese nationalists will try to use that to say that Japan has an especially special culture that’s somehow uniquely incompatible with other cultures, so that makes it okay for them to be intolerant. But I’m not sure if I buy that. Like, Japanese has the same word order as Korean, Kanji is just Chinese characters, and Japanese architecture isn’t exactly the same as Chinese architecture, but they do look very similar. I’ve always felt like Japan is sort of like China’s little brother almost (not politically) but culturally. Do other people not feel that way about it and I’m just dumb or something? Because I remember when I was younger everybody would always associate China and Japan together, but for some reason I’m seeing all this right wing stuff on the internet that they’re totally different somehow and I was just reflecting on it, I don’t know if that’s actually true that Japan is uniquely special. Everything they do looks like it fits in perfectly with Korean and Chinese culture.

Or even certain things like, "oh Japanese people are super weird because they’re collectivist and they like following the rules." Korea isn’t like that?

I also don’t get the obsession with Japan though why isn’t there an obsession with Vietnam? Vietnamese people are awesome. Out of all the groups of people I’ve met they only other group that seems to be close to as social as they are would be Indians, but it’s like more than that. They don’t have that weird insecurity a lot of people have.

Which is also kinda messed up though because I have that weird insecurity I find annoying about some types of people… I didn’t realize to what extent until I was around Germans and I was like, "Oh people you don’t know say hi to you."
