He also said this in response to a study done by Harvard in 2013 which found that in a true meritocracy, black failure rates would increase by some alarming percentage. He then concluded, reasonably... well in that case the number of black professors would approach zero.
By the way the study was done because at the time Harvard had a disproportionate number of Asian students which they needed to do something about.

When I got to college and I sat down in a CS lecture hall and I noticed half the students are Chinese or Indian, it’s really not that confusing at all when you realize there aren’t any Japanese students. It’s because India and China are the two biggest countries. Japan is smaller than the US, there are hardly any Japanese people anywhere. It’s because of the population. These things don’t have to be some big mystery.

I swear, I was sitting down one day, and I noticed I kept hearing black students with African accents and then I thought for a second and I realized I never hear anybody speaking Japanese, and then that’s when I realized, it’s the population. China and India each have the same population as the entire continent of Africa. There are more African students than Japanese students and there are more Chinese and Indian students than African students because there are more Indians and Chinese people. It’s really not complicated at all actually.

And the thing about Americans is, Americans are stupid. Americans notice there are all these Chinese and Indian students and they think, "oh maybe Asians are smarter, maybe it’s genetic" idiot, China and India each have 4x the population of the United States, combined that’s 8x the population of the US. There are 8x more Asians in just those two countries than there are people in our whole country. This is like the most obvious outcome possible.

And then the idiotic thing too is when people bring up black people like, okay, black people are an ethnic minority in the United States, so are Asian Americans, but a lot of Asian students in US universities are international students, most of the Asians I’ve met in university aren’t American citizens. So you’re asking, how come 13% of a population that’s 4 times smaller than China and 4 times smaller than India and 8 times smaller than both of those put together when they have a history of begin oppressed specifically in this white majority society, it’s like, shut up, it’s so low IQ to even ask it as a question like the answer isn’t so obvious.
