This is purely speculative, but I think the reason why we couldn’t conquer the entire world in the past is because we simply never had the technical means to do so, and then nuclear weapons were invented. In the 1940s, there was a window I think where I’d say the US, China, and the USSR teamed up to take over the world instead of three tiny countries, the industrial technology was at a point where maybe it was possible. It’s just that window closed because nuclear bombs were invented. I do think if we colonize another planet it will probably end up being one country though. Then there’s a thing where if you imagine humans living on another planet, that gets rid of mutually assured destruction, so then maybe you could have a war between planets where Earth loses and becomes one giant colony or something. That’s my thought on it.

Either that or maybe if some country invents some new technology that causes economic divergence from the rest of the world like what happened in Europe when the steam engine was invented to the point where all other weapons that were invented before become useless. Like if you could shoot down ICBMs with 100% accuracy or something crazy.

I think with what the US is planning it's possible. I do think nukes are an issue though because multiple countries have them. Though to be fair if you just cut off their food supply the countries will crumble from within before they probably get a chance to use them

But that’s kinda like hitting a bullet with a bullet but the bullet is coming from space, and there are thousands of them, and each one can destroy a whole city. It’s not physically impossible obviously. But impractical.

I think the US probably couldn’t take over the entire world. We’re rich and have a lot of weapons, the issue is we lost a lot of our manufacturing capacity, so it’s not clear how long we’d still have so many weapons.

Well the world needs oil so you control the oil and you basically control the world (obviously one of the ideas behind the petrodollar). The issue is people can just decide to stop using the dollar to buy oil so...what if they couldn't? Well that's the idea behind what the US is doing right now. They're setting things in motion to take control of every maritime chokepoint on the seas so we can control who gets to sail and where. So this is really important because if we decide you don't get oil, well you better be willing to fight the US military for it or just go without. We can also just deny you the ability to ship in food. It's a pretty massive power grab so I could see a king of the world coming about this way if it's really done properly but lol I don't expect trump to pull it off

One thing I worry about sometimes is if nuclear weapons have halted the progress of our species. For example, imagine if we still had city states instead of nation states where our technology would be at. It would probably be pretty inferior compared to what we have now. Maybe you just need an organized state to fund some types of research. For example, traveling to other star systems, what if you just need a planet that’s unified in order to actually achieve that.

Well, the issue with that is that oil is important because of where we are technologically as a species. In the short term, because of because climate change, there will be a focus on renewables and nuclear power, but in the long term, fusion is physically possible even if it’s not technically feasible yet. Once some country invents a way to use nuclear fusion to generate electricity, there’s probably never going to be a reason to fight over energy resources ever again since the earth is mostly covered in water and water contains hydrogen, it’s the most abundant element in the universe.

And space travel in general, if you think about it, the race between the US and the Soviet Union that led to the development of human space flight never would have happened if it was funded by private industry because it’s not profitable. The economy will never lead to some innovations on its own.

Well that's the thing. People always say "oh one day people will use the BRICS unit instead of the dollar!" or "one day we won't use oil!" but the thing is those transitions take time and countries are reluctant to embrace change. Even if they started the shift tomorrow it would take years. People will start starving and then revolting long before the world can really react to what the US is doing properly

As far as I’m aware, they’ve never said it explicitly, but China has been producing a lot of electric vehicles, and the largest share of their electricity production comes from coal. China’s rapid growth in the auto industry was heavily subsidized. But China has been much slower to move away from fossil fuels, but they’re not relying as heavily on oil specifically. I think that’s probably a strategic decision they made years ago.

I mean obviously it's not a secret lol the US military has literally posted this plan on their website. Countries will obviously try to adjust before the US gains control but they likely won't be able to in time. If Trump gets a third term (very possible) then it's basically over

I don't think you realize how dependent china is on oil. They import 70% of the oil they consume and their entire economic model is based on manufacturing cheap goods. If you take their oil, they're absolutely fucked

This is for energy not manufacturing specifically. What good is it to keep the lights on when nobody has jobs because the companies can't make anything?

The Wall Street Journal has a video about Chinese factories that might be relevant here:

If you manufacture electric vehicles using robots that are powered by electricity that’s mostly generated from burning coal, oil is much less important. That’s a decision they made.

In fact China realizes it's a massive vulnerability which is why they stockpiled such massive amounts of oil. Unfortunately because of the Iran war they've had to start depleting those stockpiles

We're talking about two different things. I'm talking about Chinese manufacturing aka what the world wants from China. You're talking about the US keeping the lights on. It's not the same thing.

The US controls the global reserve currency bro. This effectively means the US can just print as much money as they want and everyone just has to deal with it (as long as demand for US dollars remains high)

Trump doesn't need to understand shit. Trump just needs to be the face to keep the southerners (the ones with all the guns) in line and they worship trump like a god. The real people calling the shots you don't really see. They hand trump a plan (stuff like project 2025) and trump just executes the plan

Yeah well it's the outline. Trump obviously doesn't surround himself with the most competent people and hegseth proves that. Anyway realistically trump really doesn't need to do this all by himself. He just needs to get the ball rolling and eventually it'll be difficult for the US to pull out. Nobody ever wants to be the guy to pull out. Look at the US pulling out of Afghanistan it was a massive cluster fuck

Apparently Indonesia is going through some financial issues as their currency's value has been crashing and everyone is rushing to get money out of the country so they've started locking everything down to trap money in the country. Interesting
