Topic: Theres no reasoning with people

Anonymous A started this discussion 1 month ago #136,980

All people do is debate and critique.

A game, movie or a show comes out it’s either too woke or not woke enough.

A random ass mayor fills a pot hole and suddenly they’re public enemy no.1

I got to get the fuck away from you people like holy shit what shit timeline we’re living in.

There never was a point in arguing. People who advocate for open discussions in which people review the facts and form purely logical opinions or make purely logical decisions live in a fucking fantasy land. They don't know how the average person thinks. It's such a fucking goofy notion, I laugh every time I hear it. Emotions are intimately tied to how we think and reason as human beings. The emotion needs to be addressed before logic can come into play

Some guy got really mad at me on here for this opinion, but I genuinely don’t believe in debate. There’s this naive ideological position people take that the good arguments will win out over the bad arguments and if you let people say whatever they want only the good arguments will win out. I still believe people should be allowed to criticize the government, but the idea that winning a debate has anything to do with who’s right and who’s wrong is stupid. Because who wins a debate is unrelated to who has a good argument, it’s related to whether people like the argument or don’t like the argument, which is based on how they already feel, and because who has a good argument and who has a bad argument is unrelated to what’s true and false in the real world. So debate actually has very little connection to reality, and in fact, the scientific method is you should come up with a hypothesis about reality and try to prove yourself wrong in order to be confident that you are correct. Debate is the exact opposite, you look for reasons why you’re right as if that can turn something incorrect into something correct. I just don’t believe in it. And I’ve watched presidential debates. Nobody with half a brain actually isn’t sure about who they’re voting for and decides because they saw a debate, I watch it for entertainment value.

And it’s pretty easy to prove this, you can take a fact we all accept as true, 2 + 2 is 4, and you can make up a fallacious argument. "2 + 2 is 4 because if you think it’s not I’ll punch you in the face." That’s a bad argument, but whether the argument is good or bad has nothing to do with reality.

Then there are some topics people debate like say abortion, is abortion right or wrong. The truth is that nothing is right or wrong, you can feel like something is right or wrong based on whatever it is you care about for emotional reasons, maybe you care a lot about babies maybe you care a lot about women, but there can never be a purely rational reason why anything is morally good or bad. Why is death good or bad? Everyone dies. Some people deserve to die, but does that even really make sense if everybody is going to die. It’s like, it just seems a little bit silly.

And then, different people have different ideas of which ideology is the good ideology, but people have this faith that good will triumph over evil, but evil can win. There’s no law of nature that evil has to lose.

And the guy who was arguing with me was a racist so even though he’s completely scientifically illiterate and knows nothing about biology or evolution especially not human evolution, he was trying to make some idiotic argument that some races are superior or inferior. But it’s stupid, is a tiger inferior to a human? If a tiger is hungry, does the tiger care what you think about yourself? That’s the most goofy thing to me.

@previous (Mr. Bloody Lemonade !0JqexkOGBc)

Tigers are definitely inferior to humans. If a tiger kills a human, a hundred humans come back and kill the tiger. If a human kills a tiger, none of the other tigers care.

That is why wildlife fears and hates the human.

@OP I hate getting all transactional but it's getting to that point. Otherwise people just take and take, and not just money... they hog resources, space and time then play dumb when you call them on it.

Don’t say stupid things. That doesn’t actually happen.

What kind of idiot thinks hoards of humans go out to take revenge and kill a tiger just because somebody was dumb enough not to realize a tiger is a tiger and that’s what tigers do?

It absolutely does, this is why wildlife flees the human being apart from specific wildlifes in inhospitable regions. Animals attack and they get murdered by a screaming mob.

If the only wildlife you’ve ever encountered are deer I could see why you’d think that.

Felines generally will approach humans if you’re not looking at them because they have a stalking instinct. They try to sneak up on their prey so their prey doesn’t run alway. You can find videos online where even if you have a lion or a cheetah that was raised in a zoo that won’t attack it’s handlers, even if you’re familiar and you sit down and don’t look at it, they’ll slowly start walking towards you, but if you look at them they stop.

Some bears will also charge at humans. Which is problematic because bears will often do a bluff charge as a warning, but if a bear is running toward you, it can be hard to tell if it’s a real charge or a bluff charge, but a bear can run faster than a human, so you should never try to run away from a bear even if it’s running at you, because if it is a bluff charge and it sees you run, then it will turn into a real charge and you can’t outrun it.

Hippos are actually pretty dangerous. Some people don’t realize they’re actually about as dangerous as lions.

Mr. Bloody Lemonade !0JqexkOGBc quintuple-posted this 4 weeks ago, 10 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #1,452,854

Chimpanzees are also pretty dangerous. They’re only about half the size of an adult human, but they’re twice as strong as humans. Their brain is only a third the size of a human brain, but they’re still extremely intelligent as far as animals go, except unlike humans they don’t have emotional regulation which makes them unpredictable. So there have been problems in the past with chimpanzees where human handlers were dealing with a chimpanzee that appeared to be docile for the longest time, then they did something that the chimpanzee perceived as unfair, and then the chimpanzee ripped somebody’s face off.

Mr. Bloody Lemonade !0JqexkOGBc sextuple-posted this 4 weeks ago, 8 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #1,452,855

Although, the really weird part about it, is that chimpanzees are smart enough that they can understand the intentions of other individuals and chimpanzees will actually try to help humans in some instances, like if a human is reaching for an object. They also have photographic memories because their brains are optimized differently than our brains so they have really good short term memory compared to humans even though they lack language. But at the same time they’re still really dangerous animals.

Mr. Bloody Lemonade !0JqexkOGBc septuple-posted this 4 weeks ago, 2 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #1,452,856

It’s relatively rare, but they even have a social hierarchy and can effectively coordinate collective violence against another group of individuals of the same species like humans can.

I'm not answering for each individual animal but bears are notoriously shy of humans except for the polar bear and that's because the ones that get familiar with humans get killed, it's artificial selection
