Like what’s with windows having cmd, wsl, and powershell? Why do you need three terminals? Remember when windows 10 had two settings app, control panel and settings? I just googled it and windows 11 still has that. Windows has the most bizarre OS design choices.

I actually realized if you try running older versions of software, if it utilizes the GPU for 3D graphics, everything is the wrong color, because back when apple used PowerPC chips, they used big endian instead of little endian.

Which is also one of the fun things about computers, it’s like, is 10 or is 01 2? Yeah whatever you feel like it is. If you think about it, it makes more sense as little endian even though we write in big endian because why would you put the most significant digit first if it’s the biggest value? It makes more sense the other way. But they’re called Arabic numerals and in Arabic you write from right to left so I was sort of thinking maybe that’s related somehow.

It’s also interesting that the mathematical terms little endian and big endian came from a fictional book and were originally about which end of the egg you should eat first. Everything is so arbitrary when you really think about it.

I must confess, I'm a bit over my head. I just installed the 580 driver for an ancient GPU then spent all day trying to figure out why nothing involving graphics was working. Ubuntu defaulted to X.ORG open source drivers even though I had the proprietary Nvidia driver installed from the terminal...
