Maybe this sounds bad. But part of what offends me about the idea of a draft is there’s this idea that as men we should protect others. But what if there’s a war in the world and I honestly just feel like I’m cool if everybody else dies? Aren’t I entitled to not give a shit if somebody else dies? What if I don’t like you that much.

Like the idea of dying for your country doesn’t make sense. If the idea is that if there’s a war all the men should fight and protect the woman, if there was any random person on the street regardless of gender if you asked me if I’d rather live or let them die, I’d rather live and just let them die and I wouldn’t feel bad about it. It doesn’t make sense. Why would I care if other people die if I don’t even know them?

Like how can I feel bad for you if you did and I don’t even know you well enough to know whether you’re a cool dude or an asshole or something? Maybe I should be happy you died because you might be a bad person. I’m just saying I don’t know!

Like some old guy on the street walked up and said something nasty for no reason. If I saw him get hit by a car in the middle of the road and die, I’d feel bad about it. But it’s not because I should it’s just because I wouldn’t have known he was a bad person. But now I do so I wouldn’t care. So why should you ever care actually unless you know them?

That’s the other thing though, we have this stupid societal expectation that the strong should always protect the weak. But that old guy who’s an asshole. He said something or other that implied he might have been in the military, I don’t know. And I understand that we should respect people for serving and I do and all that, but at the same time it’s like, you’re an old fart, you were in the military I think from what he said, if you were just a nice person I’d totally respect you and everything. But you had to be an asshole for no reason so now every time I see you in public I don’t say anything but I just hope you get hit by a car and die in front of me at the same time. But because of social expectations I have to just not act out or anything because it looks bad to get angry at an old person. But I am excited for the day he dies, no doubt. Fuck that guy he can burn in hell and I hope he has no family to go to the funeral.

I should get over it. The only thing that makes me sad is I know I’m going to outlive him, but I probably won’t realize when he’s dead. I’m just going to not see him again and I won’t know that he’s dead or what happened and then I’ll forget. And I feel a bit sad about that.

If I was a psychopath I’d make an app for that. Is this person dead yet. Give you a push notification when your enemies die. If you have enough it’s statistically likely some of them will die first.

Like the government kills people but they told us murder is bad. So let’s just make an app so that we can feel the same joy they feel when they kill their enemies but we’ll take the moral high ground and scan obituaries with AI instead of actually doing harm in the world. I think that’s fair.
