When you push this much propaganda it forces the mentally sound to acknowledge what's going on.
Prior to the hysteria hitting it's critical threshold there were people that confidently said irrational things, and couldn't understand the error no matter how clearly it was explained to them. But it's easy to dismiss it as a misunderstanding, they were having an off day, or the topic just didn't matter enough.
But the mental processes some people go through are disconnected from reality and they couldn't tell fact from fiction if they want to. It wasn't until bad actors exploited that to get their money and convince them to sexually mutilate themselves that we finally have an event that the rest of society will never forget.
