The Odyssey is fundamentally a work of ancient fiction and mythology rather than a literal historical account.
Expecting strict historical accuracy from a story featuring cyclopes, sirens, and gods
is a bit of a false premise, though Christopher Nolan's cinematic adaptation has sparked plenty of debate regarding its specific artistic choices

It’s pretty good overall. Odysseus didn’t present as a mastermind in the frenzied final fight. Some of the dialogue was anachronistic. All of the women were older. In the 1990s TV movie, you had Bernadette Peters as Circe (ungh) and Vanessa Williams as Kalypso (uuunnggghhh) as opposed to a transman and a boatload of perimenopause.
