Apparently some Chinese company said they made a DUV machine and then everybody decided to sell the chip stocks. Which is irrational for more than one reason.
At least according to AI (who knows how accurate it is):
DUV uses longer wavelengths (193 nm or 248 nm) with glass lenses for older or less critical layers, while EUV uses an ultra-short 13.5 nm wavelength with specialized mirrors in a vacuum to print the finest features on advanced chips.
So China claimed they made a machine that’s 10x worse than what South Korea produces and everybody decided to sell South Korean chip stocks.

I should reword that: 10x worse than what ASML produces which is what South Korea uses to make chips, South Korea doesn’t make EUV machines, it’s just America made it illegal for China to buy EUV machines so now China has an incentive to make their own and everybody’s just surprised that the obvious thing is what usually happens.
