Obviously there’s no acceptable level, but I think people, especially Americans just don’t really comprehend the size of the church. Especially when someone acts like the church will be driven bankrupt, the math on that just doesn’t work out the way they think it does. If you look online you can find out how much money the Catholic church has in Australia, people aren’t sure how much the entire thing has globally but in Australia for legal reasons I guess they’re required to report how much they have.

That's not how rates work. Having more people doesn't automatically make the rate go up.
And what's the logic here? If there's over a billion the leadership has to cover it up and move predators to a new area where parishoners don't know?

First off, I never said that. Second off, what does that have to do with the rate of predators? My point is that the Catholic Church is such a large organization that it doesn’t make sense to assume that there would be no predators in the church. That said I’m not arguing there is any acceptable level. My point is more that it doesn’t make sense to judge a religion based on a minority of individuals. Even the leadership of the Catholic Church is huge, there are 5,600 bishops. Some bishops obviously were bad people who were wrong for moving priests around, but that doesn’t mean every catholic bishop, or even most of them had anything to do with that.

My point is that priests who do bad things are bad people, but you can’t label 1.4 billion people or 400,000 priests, or 5,600 bishops as all bad like we all had something to do with that. Obviously the people involved with that shouldn’t be a part of the church and should be punished. I’m not arguing that it didn’t happen or that it’s not bad, or that there shouldn’t be justice for it. I’m just saying, it’s kind of stupid to blame everybody for something a smaller subset of people did.

And, I think "what about x, y, and z" arguments are annoying. But if you think about it, essentially the issue with the Catholic Church is a conspiracy to protect bad people. That’s not a thing that was exclusively done by the Catholic Church, governments have done much worse things. However, a country isn’t eternally evil because it conspired to do something horrific, because a country is essentially a collection of individuals, and individuals die. The Catholic Church as an institution can always continue to exist with different people, but because people are flawed, there will always be sin within the church. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t fight against it, we obviously should, but it wouldn’t made sense if we just threw away every organization that was made up of bad people because then there wouldn’t be any large organizations of people doing anything at all.

To be honest, moving priests around isn’t close to the worst thing the church has ever done historically if you compare it to the Spanish Inquisition which was over 300 years of systematic forced conversion of Jews and Muslims, forced confessions and torture or the various crusades declared by the pope in medieval Europe where people were told if they died fighting Islam they would receive immediate remission of their sins, bypassing purgatory and going straight to heaven, or the Jewish ghettos in Rome, etc. The Church is an old organization, in the past there was no separation of church and state, most European countries were authoritarian absolute monarchies, and the church was more powerful than governments, so a lot of bad stuff happened. However, the point of the church is to continue the tradition of Jesus who preached a message of forgiveness and mercy, which is morally good. So it doesn’t make sense to just give up because evil exists and then be like, welp, guess we can’t try to do anything good because our ancestors did bad stuff. Obviously we shouldn’t deny it, and should acknowledge it, but it would be dumb to just surrender to it.
