People make it seem like the British just came into North America and instantly wiped the natives out because they were so technologically superior, that’s actually not what happened.

Or even the fact that they enslaved Africans. Why? Sure it was evil, but they didn’t enslave Africans specifically because Africans are inferior somehow, there’s an actual reason why they chose to enslave Africans specifically. The US is 250 years old, Europeans have been in the Americas for 500 years. In the first 250, they had tiny European settlements, Native Americans still were fighting against Europeans, and dying from disease at the same time. I just think it’s weird people don’t talk about that stuff. Obviously they were racist, but racism was invented to justify slavery not the other way around.

Uhhh, no? I don't think anyone thinks that? Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of American history knows about Americans conflicting with natives well after America became independent.

It’s actually pretty surprising the things I’ve heard people say about Native Americans. Even in history class, and I lived in left wing and right wing areas, the only minority they ever talked about were black people.

And even when they talk about black people they just portray it as, blacks started out as slaves, and then the civil war happened and then the civil rights movement happened. They don’t talk about when Europe colonized Africa or why they enslaved blacks specifically or how Europe colonized Africa. They just kind of treat it as a given when it’s not the beginning of European or African history. They just make the assumption that Europe is dominant and they don’t bother thinking about why or how that became the case in the first place or bother mentioning that wasn’t always the case.

Because a lot of people don’t even have an accurate perception of how advanced Europe, Africa, and the Native Americans were. A lot of people think that Africans were as primitive as the Native Americans, but that’s actually not the case. For example, the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age. Africa and Europe were both Iron Age societies when Europe colonized Africa, and Europe had gunpowder for hundreds of years before they colonized Africa. It wasn’t actually gunpowder or steel, it was coal.

Even if you look into certain things like when guns were introduced to west Africa vs when it was colonized, it doesn’t align with the narrative most people have.
