What happened to relics of saints and bone churches and gargoyles and all of that stuff? It seems like the old Christianity had a different vibe. I wonder what happened culturally that changed that.

I would think it requires an unusual combination of being very religious and conservative, yet very open minded about what to do with dead people at the same time.

Some of the stuff is really creative actually. I heard some people on the internet propose the population is so high in the future we might have to bury people standing up in skyscrapers so we don’t run out of land.

Or actually, those were two separate ideas, not both at the same time. But still… they thought about it back in the day. Bury people standing up. Why not? We do we bury people lying down? It takes up more room. If people are just going to keep dying at some point it could make sense.
