America250 was a 10-year bipartisan effort to prepare for a big celebration on the National Mall. It was hijacked by Trump’s Freedom 250, which couldn’t fill the booths. Or keep the power on. Melted ice cream, a semi-functional Ferris Wheel, a plywood arch of triumph. Trump can’t even throw a party or emulate the disparaged Roman emperors who at least three good parties and games (Nero, Commodus). Like everything he touches it’s a chintzy failure. Not to mention an Uncle Sam who was caught masturbating.
Most concert acts didn’t show and six states didn’t participate.
The Department of the Interior also redirected nearly $80M in federal grants to the National Park Foundation to fund Freedom 250 initiatives, including the "Great American State Fair" on the National Mall.
Any monarch or dictator worth a shit wouldn’t have bungled this. It will be interesting to see where a lot of that money actually went.
