They hijacked a university in Florida and tanked the curriculum but didn’t do anything of value. It’s pretty simple. Restore the humanities to teaching something that isn’t post-structuralist jibber jabber. Western civ and history and English composition are fine. It basically means restoring university education in some fields to where they were in the 1990s and before until “critical studies” nonsense because in vogue.

I just find the conservative romanticization of western values to be a bit silly. Because what are "western values?" They’re always yapping about how Marxism is bad. Who came up with Marxism? Is Nazism a western idea? Is communism a western idea? It’s like, yeah we have the best ideas because you ignore all the ones that were bad ideas.

It’s like, sure, there were great western thinkers advocating for free speech and liberal ideas. You can also find people who were arguing for the exact opposite at the same time. But it’s all selectively filtered to make it look like some cultures are superior to others, when it’s really just cherry picking stuff that looks good over stuff that looks bad.

Nice leap to conclusions. I don’t support a nonsensical glorified perspective of history and I don’t support one tied to the Frankfurt School that wants to subvert the meaning of meaning (post-modernist, post-structuralist, critical studies). I would gladly embrace proper world history and study of African Empires. The connections and trade routes and cultural exchanges are critical and neglected. When I reject critical studies it’s because it consists of padded room ramblings and make believe pretentious language that hides a lack of ideas. Take Derrick Bell. He did great work exposing racism inherent in institutional design. But people who claim to use his ideas write in academic jargon and further nothing.

There is a huge body of work on monarchist and right wing rejection of the Enlightenment and French Revolution that continues until today.
