Mate. Akhenaten wasn't actually promoting monotheism, from what we can tell. He never tried to get rid of or suppress worship of the other Gods, he just seems to have demoted them to a lesser status under Aten. Henotheism is the technical term for this.
Also, his religious reforms were basically just a vanity project that got undone as soon as he died.
