Topic: “Critical” studies have ruined the humanities.

I know these fake scholars claim they’re speaking truth to power, or targeting prior injustices. Cool. Do it without invective, by employing actual scholarship, by writing clearly and avoiding obscurantist language and HR boilerplate.

If you truly wanted to change the world and not just pad your tenure the focus would be on ethical entrepreneurship and sustainability. Teaching people to be outraged and wave signs doesn’t change things. Making money and wielding influence does. Becoming an actual scholar whose research isn’t based on verbiage does. People whose writing is inchoate are peacocking and also hiding that they have nothing to say.

How does word salad change the world?

"The move from a structuralist account in which capital is understood to structure social relations in relatively homologous ways to a view of hegemony in which power relations are subject to repetition, convergence, and rearticulation brought the question of temporality into the thinking of structure".
