Btw Nigeria won’t compete directly with the United States for 100 years because even after the population surpasses the US, it takes time for people to reach adulthood in order for the dependency ratio to match that of a developed country. China and India will compete with the United States in the 21st century. However, it’s completely determined by how fast Nigeria’s birth rate falls. The faster it falls, the faster Nigeria will develop, but the longer it takes to fall, the larger Nigeria will be when it does develop.

Additional note: the Nigerian birth rate is well above replacement and the US is below replacement. That means the United States would shrink in size without immigration. If immigration to the United States stops, that will accelerate this more than anything else.
