So hypothetically, if we were going to try to take over Europe, what do you think would be acceptable losses for American troops to reach Moscow? Just back of the envelope, ballpark estimate, doesn’t have to be precise.

I think the way I’d do it is I’d give myself a loss budget, say I’m prepared to lose 1.7 million men to this, we have 340 million people, so 170 million males, so that means we’ve gone through about 1% of our supply, that’s pretty decent, that’s pretty okay. By the time we get to 17 million, then we might start wanting to think about a better way to strategize, because once you’re at 10%, you’re not at 50% yet, but when you start getting into double digit percentages, you’re going to want to start being a little bit more careful with your losses. Once you get to 85 million losses, that’s 50% of your men gone, east way to triple your infantry is you draft all the women. Now you have some wiggle room.

To be fair, with 85 million, I’m pretty confident I could get through Western Europe, through Eastern Europe, into Moscow, past Moscow, through Russia, down into Beijing, and then maybe take Tokyo while I’m at it. I think that’s a reasonable expectation.

We should say the goal the whole time was to take Tokyo but we wanted to take it like Hannibal was trying to take Rome. Don’t do it the most direct way, do it the most impressive way. We will cross the Ural mountains rather than sail across the pacific, not because it makes sense, but because it is badass.
