Having a hell is quite expensive, so a lot of religions skip it.
The Eastern religions actually found a great workaround for this with reincarnation. No need for a hell for people who don't follow the religion's rules, just have them respawn as a new person.

I tried nailing that one down with the pastors while growing up... didn't make me popular. The jews had the underworld / sheol thing going on but it's not an eternal torment situation.

theres actually several hellish realms in eastern religions as a reward for low karma lifestyles. they arent eternal, but you do go there for quite a while. then theres the fact that getting reincarnated as certain lower lifeforms would essentially be making this realm into a hell as well.

like imagine getting reincarnated as a male anglerfish, or a female bedbug, or a hindoo. those are pretty bad reincarnations, id say, but ultimately their still part of this realm, which is considered one of the middle karma realms i believe. one really has to wonder what kinda life you need to live to get reincarnated as one of the mundane animals of this world that lives one of the more brutal existences, but is not bad enough to... for example, spend an lifetime as a preta?
If i were to venture a guess, itd be whatever jupiter is doing.
