Comedy ages quickly. Try watching an old SNL or even SCTV episode. Few hold up. Lenny Bruce is barely coherent to a modern audience and his references are 50 years old.
However, an observationist like Carlin has remained relevant. Don’t let your ideology become your identity, motivation, self-help, linguistics — even where one disagrees his old shows are worth considering.

I wasn't a devout follower but I did like what I saw of his work, and he didn't hit the sarcasm or snark like some comedians did and I appreciated that.

I’m with you. I treat no one as a prophet. He had good observations and credible rhetoric. I can’t take some of his early delivery due to the cocaine motor mouth.

My key problem with Trump is that if you’re going to be an autocrat, get something done. He has a unique opportunity and unique power to restore industry, sever Iran ties to China and break the Iranian government for good, secure U.S. borders. Instead it’s vacillation and ADHD tomfoolery. He could have been a president debated for generations, but instead he’s ADHD and semi-literate and completely unlearned so he’s just a tool of oligarchs who financially pad his family and projects.

Honestly, I don’t think the fact that Trump is racist is the worst thing about it. I’ve thought about it and I’ve realized, I don’t really hate racists, I just hate stupid people, I really, really hate people who I think are stupid.
