> My first inklings about what may be a deficiency in abstract thinking came from what I began to learn about African languages. In a conversation with students in Nigeria I asked how you would say that a coconut is about halfway up the tree in their local language. “You can’t say that,” they explained. “All you can say is that it is ‘up’.” “How about right at the top?” “Nope; just ‘up’.” In other words, there appeared to be no way to express gradations.
This part actually makes a lot of sense though because coconuts only grow at the top of palm trees. The idea of a coconut being "halfway up the tree" is meaningless and impossible. This is probably why they don't have a concept gradations of coconut height because it's just not needed.

But lowkey, I think this article is lying because I know they speak Yoruba in Nigeria and I was able to translate a coconut halfway up a tree using Google Translate and when I translated it back it said the coconut was halfway up a tree. So I think this might actually just be complete bullshit.

It was kind of a tedious article. 2000 words to say "Africans evolved under very different circumstances than Europeans, and they are very different people from Europeans as a result".

Given the article was about a west African language, I feel like it would be more interesting to compare it to Asian languages. Since Nigerian languages are tonal, I feel like it would make more sense / be more interesting to compare it to Mandarin for example.

All of the African diaspora religions are tied to Yoruba religions.

It doesn't make sense because languages that do have a way of expressing halfway up can apply it to any situation.
If this language really doesn't have a way to express that, it would mean they lack a way to communicate this idea in the endless number of ways that it would be useful outside of this situation.
This would be immediately obvious to any abstract thinker that can understand universal vs particular cases, and speculate about how a problem would arise outside their current one. Being unable to predict that issue is myopic.
I've noticed that blacks and other low IQ groups tend to really struggle with any "intuition pump" that comes up in philosophy. Give them the trolly problem and they don't evaluate how action vs inaction impacts moral decisions, they try to either find a loophole or declare that this wouldn't really happen and ignore the scenario.
It's the same problem with pointing to an average. They try to find an exception, or declare that not all apply to the average, as if they are unable to understand an abstract concept like an average to begin with. It would be one thing to say "Yes, but also" however they always say something like "That's wrong because" which shows they fundamentally don't get abstractions.

What’s your point? I didn’t see any point, I just saw a lot of rambling about how you think black people can’t understand abstract concepts, which ironically makes you sound retarded.

I have a point to my existence, I have goals and aspirations, my life has meaning and direction. I don’t think your life has a point. I think you just make false comparisons, and that’s how you maintain self esteem, but you don’t have a spirit that guides you to anything higher. You just waste your time comparing yourself to blacks, but you don’t actually work on yourself, so you remain a failure. I don’t need to compare myself to anybody, because I have a sense of self. You don’t really. I don’t think you understand what you are unless it’s relative to a black person. Which is okay, I consider myself to be more important than you anyway.
> There's nowhere for the conversation to go if you just call me names and refuse to engage with any of the points I wrote out.
Isn’t it beautiful how you mocked me for saying debate is pointless yet it took you this long to almost just barely realize the point I was making. But you still don’t get it yet, and you’re going to try to argue with me now out of pride or whatever. Usual bitch bullshit, keep doing it.

The thing you have to realize is neither of us, neither you or I will change our minds no matter what either of us says. I understand that, I don’t think you do.

Once again talking about yourself and insulting me, but not a single refutation of any point I made, not even an attempt ay addressing anything I said.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. I don't know black people that ever can point to a specific point they disagree with, and articulate an actual refutation.
It's always the same technique. Ignore the content of what was said, and make accusations about personal character and try to evoke an emptional reaponse by insulting them.
Surely if blacks were just as capable you'd see one do both at the very least. They'd refute a central point, and maybe follow it with an insult.

I mean, let’s just imagine for a second we take you at your word. Blacks are stupid and inferior. Great. We’ve established that. Now what are you? Blacks are inferior. Okay but what are you? Blacks are stupid.
Do you see the problem here? You’re literally nothing. You don’t exist. I exist. You don’t. If you die nothing is lost because nothing was ever there.

I've changed my mind from conversations, because sometimes I have a point refuted and cannot find any way to modify my argument to maintain my position. So I change it.
You are starting with the assumption that neither side is willing, which gives you an excuse to never engage.
If I was really stubborn, you could refute a central point, and then continuosly show my refusal to engage with that key refutation. You won't, of course, because you have no refutation. You chose your beliefs based on what is convenient for you, not on which ideas stand the scrutiny of open dialogue.
