From the link:
> Finally, indigenous communities in Canda may also be viewed as good candidates as they are particularly marginalized (Allan & Smylie, 2015; Kirmayer et al., 2014; Smye et al., 2023), with high rates of substance abuse (Firestone et al., 2015), suicide (Kumar & Tjepkema, 2019), and poverty (Anderson & Collins, 2014). Historical practices, such as elders sacrificing themselves for the community (Spearim, 2020; Stegman, 2022), indicate a complex relationship with end-of-life decisions

@previous (sage) > Canda
You know you can trust a study when it misspells the name of the country it's investigating. Quality pro-death advocacy as usual.

This has to be an elaborate joke or something.
"For a conservative estimate, this scenario considers MAiD eligibility for individuals with severe mental health conditions—such as major depressive episodes, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, and substance use disorders including alcohol and cannabis use disorders—accounting for 72.4% of this group (Fsevere-mental = 0.724), without imposing additional restrictions."
Assisted suicide for alcoholism? Really? I’ve heard some stupid things, but that’s pretty dumb!

Those types are great with spending other people's money, and in this case, ending other people's lives to enrich their own. Fuck them, they can go into the volcano first if they believe in this.

I read it. Seems like a lot of argument against these policies because euthanasia would erode end of life care and could disproportionately affect marginalized groups. The flaw of the article is that it doesn’t balls-put say that bad policies could spur eugenics.
> I think this is a modern day Modest Proposal by the way
The sad thing is that if residents of LA woke up and everyone from Skid Row disappeared, they wouldn’t care. Exhausted caregivers would begin to consider how. The streets swept clean of crazy junkies. Medical costs plunging because most money is spent on the final year of someone’s life. Lots of distressed people swept up in it.
Kinder, gentler eugenics - in positive form - is found in the Nordic countries. Certain heritable conditions are gone and mentally retarded people have largely ceased to exist.

The problem with eugenics is that it isn’t scientifically applied. It’s history involved forced sterilization of teen moms who had been raped. The worthless elites and their progeny could lead worthless lives or spread syphilis.
