Topic: What’s with all the “gray man” douche LARPing in gun culture?

Nobody is going to notice my loose clothes and tacticool pants. Because I’m carrying. Waiting. An armed good guy ready to spring into action.

I'll admit, I brushed shoulders with the mall ninja and armchair commando types in my 2A days. It's... gonzo. They spend their entire lives waiting for a B&E situation to waste someone. Don't get me wrong, defending yourself is fine, but these guys define their entire lives around the one day they can be a 'hero.'

You put it better than me. I find it odd. I like to shoot targets and do some training. I have no fantasies of being some commando and I don’t want to kill anyone. I also noticed in the defensive tactics courses that when it comes to any martial arts aspect these guys often are complete wimps with no physical skills. A fearful wannabe with firearms is dangerous indeed.

Honestly, I feel kinda bad for somebody who actually legitimately feels the need to carry a gun with them everywhere you go. If you live somewhere like that, that’s probably a sign you should move somewhere else.

If you live somewhere like that, that’s probably a sign you should move somewhere else. I’m not saying you can’t defend yourself or whatever, I’m just saying, bullets don’t stop bullets. You can only increase your odds from 0 to 50/50.

The only people I’ve known with that need are security and law enforcement or live in places like Central America, rough parts in Belize and Honduras. This is anecdotal so of limited use, but years of travel and living around the country I’ve had two incidents I couldn’t talk my way out of and both times I used pepper spray and got away.

It’s the same thing for preppers honestly. When I was a kid and I lost a family member and there’s like that first time you fully consciously realize what death is, it’s pretty scary. So some people become obsessive over ways to not die. And people aren’t rational they’re emotional, so they’ll focus on the things that are scary, like getting attacked is scary, or the thought of a war or something in the case of a prepper is scary. But the thing is, most likely, you’re going to die from one of two things: cancer or heart failure. And you’re going to die and you could die at any moment. I think it’s much healthier to just accept this reality that you could die at any moment and you will die no matter what, and just move on with life and enjoy it while you have it. All this obsessive stuff isn’t healthy. Carrying a gun around everywhere won’t make you live forever, having rice stashed away in your basement won’t make you live forever.

Ngl, if somebody was from say Venezuela and they felt like they needed a gun everywhere they go, I’d have zero judgement about that, that’s probably rational. But if you’re in some random American town it’s like, you’re fine. Especially people who live in the country, that’s the part that makes no sense to me. People in the country are more likely to own guns than people in the city, but nobody’s going to rob you if you live in the middle of nowhere.

Then the thing with cancer and heart failure is you can eat healthy, exercise, don’t smoke, don’t drink, etc. But the thing is your cells are always dividing, mistakes happen when your DNA is replicating. Eventually, given enough time, if nothing else killed you, you would get cancer at some point. And your heart has to keep beating constantly to keep you alive. It can’t do that forever.

I’m a man and you wish you were me. That seems pretty gay.

the gun manufacturers are happy to accommodate the adolescent desire for the assault-style firearms, and adolescents do get a hold of them. almost every school shooting seems like a viral marketing for AR-15 style firearms that are "for hunting deer" *wink wink*

Jeff Bezos probably has a house so big he can’t really defend his hallway with a handgun.
