Number 3 is like xor. Xor is weird because if A xor B = C, you can rearrange A, B, and C in any order and the equality still holds. So you can always find the third one by xoring the other two. The missing square is always A or B but not A and B. Which isn’t complicated either but I feel like somebody could get that wrong under time pressure because it’s so different from the previous two. It also works up and down and left and right.

also, the god damn title has the word progressive in it, leading us to think there must be some kind of rule being applied with each next drawing. that third set of the first image in the thread does not work by such a rule, as there is no rule from left to right that produces each next drawing. with XOR, you could swap each given first two drawings and still produce the exact same third.

It’s also one of the reasons why you’re not supposed to take an IQ test twice. If you know to look for XOR you’re gonna find the answer way faster than if you don’t regardless of how smart you are. Which also makes it a questionable test of intelligence.

yeah and since I was a kid, I liked to fart around with puzzles of various types. some people can't be bothered with that shit, and myself when I have a some practical problem to solve, so often I think the smarter thing is to say, ah fuck it, I'll do something funner
