Topic: American evangelicals be like

Anonymous A started this discussion 3 weeks ago #134,286

Jesus: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."

2,000 years later:

American evangelicals: "Catholics don’t believe in Jesus."

The pope: "War is bad."

American evangelicals: "I don’t like the pope! The pope needs to stay out of our politics! I think Trump is doing what God wants him to! We have to kill Muslims!"

To have ANY credibility, the evangelicals needed to denounce someone so worldly back in 2016. Although they can't endorse in politics without losing 501(c) status, it should have been priority 1 to say the teachings of Jesus trump (teehee) any worldly powers or people. So yes, Christains are frauds and charlatans.

The one thing that’s annoying is when atheists say "religion is dying" as if millions of Americans woke up one day and decided to turn to science and rationality, when really Americans are mostly just nihilists who reject morality and truth all together.

And it is dying in wealthy developed first world countries dominated by Godless consumerism. Although wealthy developed first world countries are dying due to low birth rates, so globally, religion actually isn’t dying.

Romanism (pope worship) is a splitter religion, the true church that Jesus Christ founded is called Orthodox (meaning original).

Protestants are closer to Orthodox Christianity than Romanism becuase Romanism has idol worship and delivers young boys to known pedophiles.

Orthodox churches teach the logos, concrete rules of reason that can be demonstrated in seminary.

If you only have a protestant church near you, that's better than nothing. If the only church in your neighborhood is Romanist just stay home they will corrupt your mind and try to touch your children.

Orthodox and Catholic both have very similar etymologies. Orthodox means "correct belief" and Catholic means "universal belief." The Orthodox Churches and the Catholic Church were originally both part of the same apostolic church. Everything anon D just said was dumb. Originally the bishop of Rome had primacy over all the other patriarchs which are now Orthodox, but the Catholic interpretation is that primacy means the pope is the infallible leader of all of Christianity while the Orthodox interpretation was that he was "fist among equals." Either way, the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus and the pope has primacy.

Then on top of that, if it wasn’t for Catholicism, Protestant denominations wouldn’t exist because Protestants are people who protest Catholicism, but Catholicism is the original Christian church. There wouldn’t be any Baptist or Presbyterian or Anglican or Methodist churches if there wasn’t a Catholic Church founded by Jesus for them to protest. They’re all just modified versions of Christianity. Of course pseudo intellectuals who have a problem with Catholicism will make up whatever BS story about who they think the real "first pope" was and how they think the Catholic Church is corrupt and blah blah blah. If you trace it back historically, St. Peter knew Jesus during his lifetime, and in the Bible Jesus told Peter that he is called Peter (Peter means "rock"), and on this rock (Peter), he will build his church. Later Peter went to Rome and continued the church. That’s why it’s called St. Peter’s basilica. The Catholic Church was founded directly by Jesus. There’s no way around that even if you don’t like it, it’s true.

Now, Catholics and Orthodox Christians will say stuff about how the other side is wrong, but the truth is just that Eastern and Western Europe experienced cultural divergence over time and about a thousand years ago it got to a point where they couldn’t reconcile it anymore. So the Orthodox Christians also say they were founded by Jesus, and they’re also correct.

I saw some video on YouTube where two guys tried to infiltrate Scientology. They were wearing those glasses where it has a camera in it, and they did some weird ritual where it was like Simon says or something where they had to stand up and clap or turn around in a random sequence when the guy up at the front of the room said it for like an hour or something.

Honestly, I’d have no idea if that’s real or if they staged that, but I don’t find it hard to believe.

You know, people say hypnosis doesn’t work, but clearly the cults seem to have the art perfected.

Evangelicals are huge hypocrites. The rich ones will go to another state to get their debutante daughter an abortion. Some of the church, mission, and other trips are anything but - the holy rollers like prostitutes of all genders. It’s all about power, with the claim that the Almighty supports them.

I grew up and went to school with these assholes, with their ostentatious prayer circles where they’d all smile at heaven with closed eyes as if enjoying some kind of private fart.

It’s participatory and willful blindness. Belonging and sense of community are paramount. Plus you get to bully those who don’t applaud enthusiastically enough and hate everyone outside of your little tribe.
