I've carried a 15 inch laptop many times with zero problems. Apple decided to make the screen larger, I'm not sure why. It weighs 2.15 kg. This is more than 1.85 typical weight for a 15 inch Windows laptop.

Linux is free if you don’t value your time. MacOS is based on Unix so you can still use bash commands and homebrew, only you have to pay more for it.
