One of the intruders arrested and charged with trespassing in the Charleston Museum last weekend is also the man who supplied cocaine to former state Treasurer Thomas Ravenel.

Michael L. Miller, 29, of Mount Pleasant, and a 22-year-old Folly Beach woman were taken into custody at about 3 a.m. Oct. 14 after Charleston police responded to an alarm and discovered them having sex inside.

Reached by email Thursday, Miller wrote, "What can I say, I get around."

Miller drew notoriety as the supplier to Ravenel, the former Republican treasurer whose political career ended with his 2007 arrest. Both men pleaded guilty to federal drug charges and were sentenced to similar 10-month sentences.

Miller was released from prison in December 2008. He was taken into custody again this spring for what was to be a period of nine months, for failing to complete a court-ordered program. It was not clear when he was released.

Assistant U.S. Attorney William Witherspoon, who prosecuted the Ravenel case, said Thursday that Miller's latest brush with the law has no bearing on his office because Miller was freed from federal oversight once his latest revocation matter concluded.

Witherspoon declined to say whether Miller's testimony would be sought in the upcoming prosecution of another Ravenel case defendant, Pasquale Pellicoro, 57, a one-time Johns Island resident and wine merchant who fled to Europe. He was extradited back to the U.S. in August and faces up to 20 years in federal prison on a charge that he possessed and intended to distribute cocaine.

When police found the two in the Charleston Museum, both had slurred speech and trouble standing, the report said. The couple told police they had met at a nearby bar and while walking down Meeting Street noticed an unsecured door at the museum.

Each was ticketed $470 on the trespassing charge.
