I kind of hate having to go through steam for some games too. Luckily I can bypass steam for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, so it's not too annoying.

Also, apparently Skyrim will automatically try to integrate with steam when installed on the PC. Fuck.
Don't get me wrong, I like steam, but I want Skyrim to be separate from it so I can launch it quicker and mod it easier.

Unless something changed in between, Steam never interfered with my modding Oblivion. Aside from a very short "Steam is launching Skyrim..." message, it also shouldn't impact launch time to any noticeable degree. Steamworks ("Steam integration") is infinitely preferable to the GFWL a lot of rumors suggested they were planning on initially going with for DRM.

But it's Skyrim, it must be perfect. A slight delay and the data folder being in the steam folder is just not okay.
Meh, I'll probably just install a script extender when one is made and launch through that.

You're right, I apologize. I've had Steam open silently at startup for so long I had forgotten how long it takes to start up cold.
