Live in the suburbs basically, and drive to work in Detroit. That’s the way the city was designed because Henry Ford was so rich he convinced the government to make the city as spread out as possible and to create no public transportation whatsoever.

Now downtown Detroit, there’s stuff to do there during the day, it’s fine it’s safe to be there during the day. If you want to die, go there at night. Racist republicans will say Detroit has crime because of black people, but ask a black person from Detroit if they go out downtown at night. Black people don’t do that. Suicidal people do that.

There’s some cleaned up hipster section that’s okay. Basically what they need to do is relocate stranded people and level whole neighborhoods to make a mid-size city.
Detroit is a beneficiary of the Old Lib playbook:
1) Elect an administratively inexperienced former civil rights leader as mayor for life.
2) Increase taxes and enshittify services to guarantee businesses and people with means flee to the suburbs.
3) Increase public employment to fill the gap and ensure a financial death spiral.
4) Create dead zones filled with drugs and gangs that become semi-autonomous.
5) Whine that critics and problems are due to racism and point to a white race riot from the 1940s.

That’s a dumb take, the state of Detroit has nothing to do with racism or democrats, it has to do with the deindustrialization of the United States. Former industrial cities in republican states also suck.

The United States peaked as an industrial power after World War Two, because all the factories in Europe and Japan got bombed out. But once they rebuilt the factories in Germany and Japan, all of the sudden we actually had to compete and auto companies realized they could pay lower wages in places like Mexico, so they left the US. Blaming global economic factors on city mayors doesn’t make any sense. The "exceptionalism" of the United States was always due to the fact we never had to recover from word war two while the rest of the world did, but the rest of the world caught up eventually. China used to be poorer than most African countries back in the 1960s since they suffered under Japanese imperialism and then under Maoism. Now they produce more vehicles than the US and Japan combined, but Americans don’t know that because we put tariffs on Chinese cars so that Americans can’t afford to buy them, but if you go to other parts of the world, they’re all over the place.
> I think I've learned that the trick is not food warehouses, too much chaos, high demands because everyone eats food.
It’s also a bad idea to work at a warehouse that stores food because toilet paper burns much more easily than food and you want a workplace that’s easy to burn down out of vengeance. Say anonymous H was my boss for example. If I was working in a food warehouse, I’d have to bring my own gasoline. That’s less efficient.
