Imperialism was headed for death. WWII accelerated and Japan showed up the cheapskate, weak-ass constabulary forces for what they were. Then the smart imperialists like the French shifted to the sharecropping model of continued economic arrangements, security guarantees, and co-opting local elites.

It is kinda dumb though that 90% of the native Americans died of disease and the Africans didn’t have guns, and then the British showed up and were like, "WhY aRe wE sO gOoD aT fIgHtiNg? It MusT bE oUR CulTure!"
