One time a Chinese guy asked me if Africa is western, and I said no. Then he asked me if Africa is eastern and I said no.

I’ve thought about it. Why isn’t Africa western? Have you looked at a map? The most western edge of Africa is farther west than the most western edge of Europe. It doesn’t make any sense.
