places like this are only "social media" in a retroactive sense. I would not classify it that way at all. We are not obligated to give even one bit of personal information that can be stored, sold, or hacked for one thing.

Which is a great point, making these hobbyist boards. Social media should be officially redefined as businesses that collate users’ information to target them with ads, and that resell users’ information to data brokers and other third parties.
