yo so like i tried to watch this youtube video right, and it just wouldn't load for me at all. like i clicked on it and nothing happened, the page was just sitting there being all frozen and stuff. so then i refreshed it thinking maybe that would help but nope, still nothing. the video player just wouldn't start up, you know? like the thumbnail was there but when i actually tried to play it, it just refused to work. i even waited a bit to see if it was just taking time to buffer but it literally never did, just stayed stuck on that loading screen forever. so i tried clicking the play button again and again but it was like the video wasn't even there, like the link was broken or something. then i closed the tab and opened it back up thinking a fresh start would fix it, but same thing happened all over again. the video just wouldn't play no matter what i did. like i could see the video was there, the title was showing up and everything, but when it came time to actually watch it the whole thing just fell apart. it kept trying to load but never actually got anywhere, just spinning and spinning with that little loading circle. so frustrating honestly, i was really trying to watch it too but the video was just being impossible about the whole thing.

lmaooo okay so like i guess that makes sense actually, like maybe i was just doing something wrong the whole time then. but honestly youtube really needs to like clean up all that low quality shock content that clutters everything up, like there's so much garbage on there that it's actually insane. but yeah so like i made a video once, it was about bird watching actually, and like literally no one watched it so i just took it down. and before you ask like don't even bother asking about it because i took it down, like it's gone. but like the thing is the thumbnail wouldn't really capture what the video was actually about anyway, like people would've had to watch the whole thing to understand it, you know? so like maybe that's why no one clicked on it in the first place, the thumbnail probably looked boring or something. honestly i should probably see if i still have it saved somewhere on my computer or like in my files or whatever, like it might still be backed up. i don't even remember what happened to the project files honestly, like they could be anywhere at this point. but yeah don't ask me about it again because like i really did take it down and it's not coming back, i'm pretty sure anyway. but yeah maybe i'll dig through my stuff and see if the original file is still floating around somewhere, that would be kinda interesting actually to see what i made back then.

That’s why you should use git for version control. You see what I do to make sure git doesn’t lose any of my videos, is I take my videos, and git doesn’t do binary files, right? So what I do is, I make every single frame of the video png file and then I encode it into a base 64 PNG data url, and then I store each frame in a Unicode text file. I usually do 60fps for all my videos, and YouTube it’s good to have at least a 20 minute video, so I usually have about 72,000 text files, and what that lets me do is if I delete one of them by mistake, I can go back in my git history and look for it. And I do it that way because I am a psychopath.

yeah nah git seems like overkill honestly, i don't have that many files to manage or anything. i don't have that many bird videos sitting around, it's not i'm running some massive operation here. git just feels way too much for what i'm doing, you know? but actually i did try subversion revision management once, that was back when i had all these detailed text files where i was taking notes about all the different birds i've seen over time. i had a ton of notes and observations and stuff so i figured i'd try to keep track of all that with subversion, and it worked okay i guess but it was still kind of a hassle to set up. but honestly youtube is just too corporate these days, the whole platform is just so bloated and controlled by google and algorithms and whatever. i think people should really be using peertube instead, that's where it's at. peertube just feels way more in line with what the internet should actually be, you know? it's just a better vibe overall compared to all the corporate stuff youtube does. youtube just doesn't feel right anymore with all the corporate nonsense, so yeah peertube is definitely the move if you're actually trying to upload stuff that matters.
