Topic: weird new walmart feature

Anonymous A started this discussion 3 weeks ago #133,632

Today I went to Walmart to pick up prescriptions and a few groceries. While at the self-checkout, I did what I always do and threw my pharmacy stuff into a bag, and something happened that I've never seen before. It locked me out of scanning with an error message, saying that an associate was on the way. When they got there, they typed in their badge number and then it showed a video of me grabbing my meds from the cart and putting them into a bag without scanning. That is to say, the video is being analyzed in real time and it thought I was stealing. The employee obviously knew that wasn't the case and just clicked dismiss or whatever, but still. What the fuck, man. The future sucks.

They've been doing shit like that for a couple of years at the self checkouts.

Not surprising, but it's weird I've never encountered it before when chucking stuff in bags without scanning that were either from the pharmacy or purchased in another part of the store like electronics

I went through self checkout and was holding an item in one hand, and using the other to open a bag, and it flagged me as trying to steal. Associate saw video and dismissed it.

How strange, paying customers are getting the business while thieves can walk right out of the store with a full basket if they keep it under the felony threshold. Pretty BS if you ask me.

It depends which store. Adoption is more recent at some.

It’s creepy but I also understand why. I’ve seen Latinos try to walk entire carts filled with stuff to elevators and bypass disused checkouts. I see people ring up things incorrectly to buy one item they discard and put the real one on the scale.
