Good article on its status and economic model. It adapted like the old Peruvian Shining Path guerrillas or FARC or portions of the IRA. Armed and organized with illicit networks, they become standard criminal organizations.

Kony’s support melted when Uganda offered amnesty to anyone who left the group and most departed.
