It’s a creative and original universe. The premise of massed sword and knife fighting in an intergalactic empire is idiotic. Humans only get better at killing each other, not regressing due to magical shielding tech that somehow doesn’t irradiate or smother the user.

Dune is probably my favourite sci-fi. Ive read the books at least twice and listened to the audiobooks several time over, even the books written by his son.
You need to look beyond the combat, its really about politics and religion.

Fair point. I love the series and the depth of storytelling. Most imitators and aspirants fail. The aesthetic is great. I just get hung up on this one aspect. Maybe preserve it as a revived dueling culture…
