Iran. I could make another thread for Ukraine. I think that one will last 10 years in total.

If the Iranian government falls, I think it’s going to be another ISIS type situation where you have loads of terrorist organizations with slightly different views of Islam splintering off from each other fighting us and each other at the same time and we just stay there with boots on the ground until we get bored.

Because like, most Iranians hate their government, but the ones that like it are the ones with guns.

Well they’re claiming a million Russian war dead or whatever, but there are a hundred million Russians.

I guess Russia is betting on the fact that Russia has more people than Ukraine and if Ukraine runs out of people they seem to be fine with that. Vladimir Putin is a psychopath so he’s not concerned about that at all.

Roughly half of them are women, then there's too young or too old, disabilities, then there's the draft resistance that will come too, all the while the war gets costlier and more complicated.

In World War Two, the Soviet Union drafted 800,000 women. Putin is a conservative, he’s not a communist, but there’s no reason why women can’t fight. Women are weaker than men, but not by an amount that makes a difference when you get hit by a bullet. There have been studies that have found that women are actually slightly less likely to die from gunshot wounds because increased muscularity makes it harder to perform surgery, and since women are weaker, they have slightly better fine motor skills. So women would be slightly better at aiming guns and slightly less likely to die if they get shot by guns. But old thinking hasn’t died out. It really would make more sense to use more female soldiers in the modern day. Russia isn’t doing it so it’s irrelevant, but there’s really no reason why they couldn’t.

Yeah but that was a different time, would be just as good soldiers or even better? Honestly I have no clue, but I know Putin is not going to risk being known to send women into war of his own making that isn't even defensive

It’s only the case because Putin is trying to portray himself as an Orthodox Christian. I have doubts about how faithful he actually he is considering his complete disregard for human life and the fact that he was a member of the community party in the Soviet Union which would have required him to be an atheist. Putin is a dictator, if he spent the last 20 years pushing less conservative propaganda on the Russian people maybe he could get away with it. There are plenty of other countries, for example, China and North Korea, you can debate how communist they really are, but both nations identify as communist and in their military parades, they do tend to show off that there are women in their respective militaries. China is a pretty patriarchal society but not so much that they can’t ideologically justify women in the military. The United States is also patriarchal, maybe not as much as China, but even in the US, women have been allowed into pretty much all roles in the military for a while now. The only remaining debate is if they should be included in the selective service. But because of republican evangelicals I don’t think it will happen. It’s sort of Putin’s own mistake really. He has the power to change the culture in his country over the course of decades and he’s been in power for decades.

Yeah that's what's so weird, he could have spent all that money and lives way better for everyone, especially the Russians, but when it comes to war, suddenly they have deep pockets 🤷

I just think he’s a psychopath and if you could imagine what somebody who’s a psychopath is concerned with it kinda makes sense. He cares about power and domination and territory. He doesn’t care about making the world a better place and lifting up the poor. He has resources he’s just using them for what he cares about which is stuff that’s pretty much a net negative to humanity.

Although, I’d imagine Russia and Ukraine if the war lasts for long enough and they start running out of men, if they don’t reach some agreement, they might become more progressive about making women fight out of nowhere.

Anonymous D triple-posted this 1 hour ago, 6 minutes later, 1 hour after the original post[^] [v] #1,421,285

Which actually makes sense now that I think about it. Before the fall of the Soviet Union he was a member of the communist party which would require him to be an atheist, after he’s saying he’s Orthodox and he cares about religion and stuff. He’s just interested in imperialism.
