I've asked a similar question and from what I gathered its mainly because nowadays sincerity is considered cringe and corny. Every conversation has to have some level of sarcasm and irony. Just a series of "jokes" because now that most know the "truth" people just stopped believing in anything and for one to try to something to believe in something you'll get told that you are "coping".

Can we go back to believing in something without it being mocked?

maybe. I think some of us are moving passed all that but IRL in the form of touch grass. The internet itself will most likely remain in this static mode for the rest of its existence but not the real world.
